Government becomes Britain’s biggest advertiser
Those who read this site regularly know how I feel about government advertising, so it’s of little surprise to discover that the Government is now officially Britain’s biggest advertiser:
The Central Office of Information spent £207.9 million on advertising last year, more than any other organisation, according to Marketing magazine.
The next biggest spender was Procter and Gamble, the consumer products group, which spent £155 million in 2009.
Of course Government adverts are typically completely fucking useless and are often a response to “problems” that government itself has caused.
The state has defended their spending (!!! SHOCK !!!), stating:
… it helps improve public health, cut crime and promote other beneficial causes.
A COI spokesman said: “Government campaigns help save lives and money. During the past year there were important campaigns tackling issues such as obesity and climate change.”
Just for fun:
helps improve public health
No it doesn’t. Public health is getting worse. The money being pumped into it is being wasted and pretty much everyone knows it.
cut crime
Government creates most crime, where’s the advert for that?
and promote other beneficial causes
Like this sort of stuff?
tackling issues such as obesity
I was fat and didn’t even realise! Thank you Government for your wise advertising campaigns!!!
and climate change.
There’s nothing like having your money stolen from you to run advertising campaigns that won’t do anything in the name of a cause you may or may not even believe in! Thank you one more time, you absolute fucks.
In summary: All of the advertising government does is essentially propaganda because none of it educates people about the most important issue: the adverts are being crafted and broadcast by authoritarian, psychopathic control freaks who are purchasing their “important campaigns” with money they quite literally extorted from you! I’ll post my consumer advice advert one more time:

Holy shit,
I didn’t realise that government is now the largest advertiser – on reflection it’s not a huge surprise. The irony is almost funny the way the government takes our money and uses it to remind us to obey their laws.
Of course the number of those laws is growing all the time to the point where it is almost impossible for a person to go about their day-to-day lives whilst remaining inside the ‘law’.
The simple truth is that the government needs criminals as much as it needs advertising and taxation, because as Ayn Rand observed “There’s no way to rule innocent men.”
