Good Intentions – Old Walter Williams documentary
It’s awesome to see that before the days of the Internet there were people out there who knew their shit and were making things like this. I first encountered Walter Williams when I watched Friedman’s Free to Choose series but I never realised he’d made a full half hour documentary about how government programs (with their supposed good intentions) actually end up hurting the poor far more than they ever help. A real treat:

It didn’t really explain how the problems were weighted to black people. Otherwise it was mostly a good documentary.

One of the most devestating critiques of the welfare system I’ve heard in a long time, thanks for posting.

excellent find! proof that there is no such thing as altruistic state legislation.

If you would look at American poverty rates, it dropped far more in the half decade before the war on poverty than it has since. The market, and a small safety net for the legitimately downtrodden, was doing the job.
Even after reforms, we still have a huge portion of the USA reliant on government welfare programs, because leftist busybodies want to feel all powerful. The especially important part of this was minimum wage, since even European nations seem to get it’s effect on young people. The USA has no minimum wage waiver.
